We all hear so much about Outsourcing these days, despite that ,
until recently I was pretty much in the shadows regarding its meaning. When
I finally found out that Outsourcing means exactly what it seems to mean,
namely the process when a company hands out internal information to an
outsider for different types of processing, I figured this was certainly a
new information-age phenomenon.
I was rather stunned to find out that Outsourcing has been around for some
time.
On higher, corporate levels it's been a usual practice since around
the beginning of the 90s. However the reason that we, the commoners, haven't
heard about it till recently is that it was exclusive to huge, corporate
level projects. The spreading of the Outsourcing phenomenon, on to smaller
person-to-person levels, was hindered mainly by the lack of an informational
framework that would've made an easy communication between the outsourcer
and the freelancer possible. The problem was not as much the lack of a
physical communications support ( the internet was already in full swing
when outsourcing was first used) but that of a virtual framework of
communities where the potential outsourcer could meet with the potential
freelancer and selections could be made on both sides according to
individual needs.
The answer to that seems to have been found in the shape of free online freelancer communities, an
answer that had been there all the time, only noone figured it could be used
this way.
Online communities have practically been around since the beginnings of the
internet, proving that there is no equal to their power of relaying
interest-specific information to interest-specific parties.
By using this support provided by online freelancer communities, the outsourcing
phenomenon slowly crept into our everyday lives and started developing.
Nowadays there's hardly a person who can't conjure up at least one example
of low level outsourcing from their circle of friends and the phenomenon
seems to be gathering momentum. With the help of online freelancer
communities it is hard to tell where the limit - if there is one- could be
put for the expansion of the outsourcing phenomenon.
